Claire Brodie: scar and swelling therapy with LymphaTouch

UK physiotherapist Claire Brodie brought LymphaTouch into her clinic for C-section scars. She now uses it just as much for acute swelling, and it has eased the load on her hands.

Physiotherapist Claire Brodie

Claire Brodie is a UK physiotherapist specialising in women’s health and sports injuries. She runs her own clinic, Spring Physio, and works with a wide range of clients, from postnatal women going through scar healing to people recovering from acute injuries. She started using LymphaTouch in late 2024, and since then she has seen clear clinical and business value from it in her day-to-day work.

Starting with C-section scars

LymphaTouch came into Claire’s clinic to meet a growing need in postnatal care. More and more patients were coming to her with C-section and abdominal scarring, and she wanted a tool that would complement manual therapy and improve tissue mobility.

“I originally bought the LymphaTouch mainly for C-section and abdominal scarring. I was really attracted by the different approach it could offer versus my hands. With hands-on therapy, you can sometimes be too firm or inconsistent, especially with sensitive scars. But with LymphaTouch, you can set the pressure exactly. It gives the patient a sense of safety and control.”

LymphaTouch is now a regular part of Claire’s clinical workflow, used alongside her manual and exercise-based treatments. She typically uses it early in a session to reduce pain and improve movement, which makes it easier for the patient to get going with the exercises that follow.

Claire also values how adjustable the treatment is. With patients who are sensitive to touch or new to therapy, she starts gently and often lets them feel the sensation on an unaffected area first. Being able to set the pressure precisely gives her control and helps patients feel safe. She also finds that patients grasp quickly how the treatment works.

“The great thing about LymphaTouch is that it’s easy for the patient to understand. When you describe the negative pressure, it makes sense to them straight away.”

From scars to acute swelling

Claire brought the device in for scar therapy, but she soon saw its value with other patients as well, especially those with acute swelling or inflammation.

“I’ve actually used it as much for swelling, particularly on acute knee and ankle injuries. I have had some patients hobbling in to their appointment and leaving with improved pain and minimal limp.”

What patients experience

Patients at Claire’s clinic often respond well to the combination of manual therapy, exercise and supporting tools such as LymphaTouch. Results vary, but some patients report noticeable changes in comfort and movement, particularly when the device is used alongside other physiotherapy techniques. Patient feedback has included:

  • Relief from scar tightness and discomfort. Especially in postnatal cases, patients have described tension releasing and movement becoming easier within a single session.
  • Openness to new approaches. Patients who have not had device-based treatment before are often surprised by how comfortable and gentle it feels.
  • A well-tolerated option for sensitive patients. LymphaTouch can be particularly useful for people who are sensitive to touch, nervous or early in their recovery. The adjustable pressure makes it a non-invasive option that fits well into physiotherapy.

LymphaTouch works alongside hands-on therapy and gives the therapist another way to tailor treatment to each patient’s needs and responses.

Benefits for the therapist

The benefits reach Claire herself as well. As a sole practitioner she has to look after her own hands and her time, and LymphaTouch has made a difference to both.

“It’s easy to use, which matters when you’re busy. And from an occupational health point of view, it massively reduces what you need to do with your hands.”

The device has also raised the clinic’s profile. People have got in touch to ask about the treatment specifically after seeing it online, and word-of-mouth referrals have increased.

“I’ve had people message me on Instagram asking if I offer the treatment after seeing the videos. It’s definitely brought in new business.”

Investment and long-term value

For an independent physiotherapist, new equipment is a financial decision as well as a clinical one. Claire is open about the cost, but she sees real value in the device, particularly for therapists whose caseload includes scar therapy or swelling.

“It’s a big investment for someone like me. But if you’re treating scars or swelling regularly, it’s absolutely worth it.”

She encourages other physiotherapists to think about how often they treat these conditions and how much recovery outcomes matter to their patients. For her, LymphaTouch pays for itself through clinical results and patient satisfaction.

Final thoughts

LymphaTouch has become a useful part of Claire’s clinical toolkit, complementing her hands-on and exercise-based work. For therapist and patient alike, it helps keep treatment comfortable and easy to adapt. For Claire, bringing in tools like LymphaTouch is part of a broader aim in physiotherapy: responsive, well-considered care that supports recovery in a way that feels manageable for the patient.

“If you’re doing scar work, it’s a no-brainer. It’s a great addition that helps your hands, supports your patients, and grows your business.”
