Orton: LymphaTouch is a great addition to the physiotherapist's toolbox

Physiotherapists at Orton, Finland's largest private hospital focused on demanding specialised care, use LymphaTouch for post-operative swelling, scars and pain patients.

Orton is Finland's largest private hospital focused on demanding specialised medical care. It specialises in joint replacement and back surgery and offers a wide range of pain management and rehabilitation services.

Orton's physiotherapists have been using LymphaTouch devices since 2010.

Post-operative swelling and scars

LymphaTouch is used in Orton's rehabilitation and therapy services. It is especially beneficial for treating post-operative swelling, for example after knee replacement surgery, alongside other therapy. The device is also an excellent tool for treating scars. Left untreated, both swelling and tight scars slow down rehabilitation. Treating swelling with LymphaTouch is usually a moment of relief for the patient, as the effect can often be seen already in the first session. Reduced swelling helps knee mobility and makes it possible to train effectively during rehabilitation. This moves rehabilitation forward when swelling and the pain it causes have been holding progress back.

In lymphatic therapy, the device has also been used alongside manual lymphatic drainage, for example to treat fibrotic tissue. Combining manual lymphatic drainage with LymphaTouch treatment is also an effective way to treat swelling around the ankle and the metatarsal area.

Pain patients

LymphaTouch can be used as part of physiotherapy for pain patients. Treating pain patients is challenging, and treatment methods are chosen individually based on need. For some pain patients, LymphaTouch can be a good aid alongside manual therapies or in support of them. Sensitised tissue can sometimes tolerate low-intensity negative pressure treatment better than manual handling. One example is a patient with nerve damage whose sensitised lower-limb tissue cannot tolerate manual handling, but who can be treated with LymphaTouch at a negative pressure of 35 mmHg.

Easy to use and easy on the therapist

LymphaTouch is easy to use, the user interface is clear and clients find the treatment pleasant. The device's negative pressure creates a lift in the tissue, which is effective in treating scars and tight tissues, among other things. The 10 mm cup is a good addition for scar treatment. LymphaTouch is a good tool overall, and a big plus is that it can lighten your own workload if you do a lot of manual treatment.

Orton's experiences were shared by physiotherapists Jutta and Juulia.
