Oona's story: LymphaTouch as part of lymphedema treatment

Oona developed lymphedema in her left arm after breast cancer treatment. LymphaTouch has become an established part of her treatment at Docrates Cancer Center.

Oona was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2020. As part of her cancer treatment, she had a partial mastectomy, and all of her axillary lymph nodes were removed. About six months after radiotherapy ended, at the end of 2021, swelling began to develop in her left arm and she was diagnosed with lymphedema. It was first treated with compression bandaging. Today, Oona manages her lymphedema with compression sleeves and gloves, mechanical compression, bandaging, physiotherapy, ultracold therapy and LymphaTouch treatment.

As a side effect of the cancer treatments and lymphedema, fibrotic tissue formed around her wrist, and lymphatic cords developed in her arm and trunk, causing pain and discomfort. LymphaTouch proved an effective tool for treating these symptoms. The treatment quickly released the hardened tissue around the wrist and reduced pain in the treated area. The same happened with the cording: according to Oona, the treatment “broke up” the cords.

“Even though the treatment pinches a little in certain tight spots, it's still a pleasant way to be treated.”

LymphaTouch is now an established part of Oona's comprehensive lymphedema care. Every two weeks she sees a physiotherapist at Docrates Cancer Center, where LymphaTouch treatment is done at the end of each physiotherapy session.

“During the LymphaTouch treatment you can see straight away how the swelling goes down and the whole arm relaxes and becomes pain-free. I want the treatment done at the end so that the effect lasts as long as possible after physiotherapy.”
