Physiotherapist Tuuli Luhtalampi

Tuuli Luhtalampi is a Finnish physiotherapist specialising in mothers and babies, and she has made LymphaTouch part of her treatment of C-section scars. Tuuli owns Fysioluhtavilla in Espoo, a clinic offering a wide range of physiotherapy, osteopathy and massage services as well as small group classes. Together with her colleague Annakaisa Hinkkanen, she also shares experiences and information on preparing for childbirth and on holistic postnatal recovery through the Palaudu synnytyksestä (Recovery from Childbirth) community.

“I introduced LymphaTouch in my maternity physiotherapy practice to treat C-section scars. Clients were immediately keen to book appointments, and the response has been really good. At the first appointment, I assess the scar's mobility and skin sensation, and I treat the scar with LymphaTouch in addition to manual techniques. I soon found that LymphaTouch wins over manual techniques in many situations.

In the past, I tried to create a similar vacuum and lift on scar tissue with dry cupping cups. They were awkward to use, though, and didn't glide well on the abdomen, where the surrounding tissue is quite soft.

LymphaTouch has been extremely easy to use thanks to its stepless adjustment, different-sized treatment cups and the pulse and vibration features. Clients have described the treatment as pleasant and have been surprised that they feel hardly anything during it apart from a slight stretching sensation. The best part has been hearing how, after just one session, clients have noticed changes in the itching, tightness and even the appearance of the scar through the treatment and home exercises.”

Client feedback after LymphaTouch treatment

“The treatment was a good experience. Afterwards I felt as if I'd had a massage, like my metabolism had got going. As I recall, the scar stung a little after the treatment, but not badly. I think the scar moves a bit better now, and it may even be slightly lighter in colour.”

“The scar is no longer as tight or itchy as it was before the treatment. It's smoother, and sometimes I even forget it's there because I don't feel it the way I did before. The treatment felt like such a small thing compared with the change it made. I doubted whether a mini vacuum like that could work on an old scar, but I was completely wrong! The home instructions have helped me build a routine, and I now believe an old scar can still be treated and the game isn't lost!”

Client 2

“Right after the treatment the scar was slightly red, and it felt as if it had been treated for the first time. It just felt good, as though blood was flowing to the area again and the skin was getting the stimulation it needed. It also felt a bit tender, since the scar had been left untouched for so long.

My scar was fairly neat to begin with, so its appearance hasn't changed, but the numbness and tightness have eased! That's what I was hoping for from the treatment, so I'm really pleased with the effect of just one session. I'd say the numbness has improved more than the tightness, but both have changed for the better.”
