LymphaTouch supports versatile physiotherapy

At Vaalan Fysioterapia, LymphaTouch is part of daily client work: pain and swelling treatment, scar treatment and even paediatric physiotherapy.

The Vaalan Fysioterapia team

Vaalan Fysioterapia is a Finnish physiotherapy clinic with a team of five physiotherapists, two sports massage therapists and a private doctor. It serves a wide range of clients, including patients in demanding medical rehabilitation in adult neurology and paediatric physiotherapy, insurance clients, public healthcare clients and self-paying clients. The clinic also provides occupational health physiotherapy.

The clinic introduced LymphaTouch in spring 2024, and the device has since become part of daily client work. It has been particularly useful in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, pain management, swelling treatment and paediatric physiotherapy.

Easy to use

Getting started with LymphaTouch was straightforward. “The device is really easy to use, and its wide range of settings allows us to tailor treatment for different client groups,” says Emilia, Rehabilitation Manager and physiotherapist.

The device is in use almost every day. “Sometimes we've even had to agree on turns, because there's so much demand for it, especially when it's out on home visits,” Emilia says. It has proven especially valuable on home visits: it is easy to carry and brings new treatment options to clients treated at home.

Musculoskeletal problems and pain

Physiotherapist Janne uses the device mainly in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, where it has proven to be an effective tool.

“The device has been invaluable especially in the acute pain phase, when the tissue can't always be treated manually. It makes the tissue more receptive, so independent exercise works better. In one case of intercostal nerve entrapment, the device brought clear relief when other methods hadn't helped.”

Janne regularly treats two clients with grade 4 osteoarthritis, one in the shoulder and one in the hip. They receive LymphaTouch treatment about every three weeks, targeting the tissues around the joint. Through better pain management, the treatment has supported their independence, exercise and daily activity. Both clients feel that without it, the pain would become so severe that active exercise would not be possible. The plan is to use the device post-operatively as well, once the clients have joint replacement surgery.

Swelling treatment and fast results

Physiotherapists Anne and Jenni have also found the device useful, and so have their clients. At Vaalan Fysioterapia, LymphaTouch is also used to treat swelling.

“A client with upper limb swelling after breast cancer found the treatment really helpful. Using the arm became much easier after treatment,” says Anne.

One particularly notable result was achieved with a client who had suffered from plantar fasciitis symptoms for years, making everyday movement difficult. Jenni decided to try the device without making any promises about the outcome.

“The client had already tried different treatments, such as cortisone injections and conventional physiotherapy, without lasting relief. The very first LymphaTouch session brought significant pain relief. We've now treated the foot twice in a month, and the client is very satisfied and happy to be able to walk, move and go running without pain,” Jenni says.

Negative pressure therapy in paediatric physiotherapy

Emilia has used LymphaTouch in paediatric physiotherapy and found it useful for children, both in demanding medical rehabilitation and with self-paying clients. The device has also suited children with sensory hypersensitivity, for whom conventional electrotherapy is not an option. Device-based treatments in paediatric physiotherapy are limited in any case. Emilia uses LymphaTouch both for scar treatment and to ease muscle tightness in children whose excessive muscle activity restricts their joint range of motion.

“I mainly use the device for soft tissue and scar treatment in children. For example, treating scar areas has significantly increased the elasticity of the tissue, which has made stretching and exercises easier. When you can ease muscle and scar tightness, you get a wider range of motion, better motor control and better proprioception. With children, the settings have to be at the lowest level,” Emilia says.

The team's recommendation: a versatile tool

The Vaalan Fysioterapia team warmly recommends LymphaTouch to other physiotherapists. They see it as an excellent addition to their work, especially in pain and swelling treatment and in supporting rehabilitation.

“We feel the device has especially improved the versatility and effectiveness of our treatments by supporting our clients' function and participation. The best thing is how versatile LymphaTouch is: musculoskeletal physiotherapy, pain, chronic conditions, scars and lymphatic treatment all work, and for all ages.”

With LymphaTouch, the clinic can offer its clients a wider range of treatment, and each physiotherapist can use the device within their own speciality.
