Case report: 27-year-old lumpectomy scar

Women's health physiotherapist Hannah Poulton describes four treatment sessions, with LymphaTouch as the main component, for a client with a 27-year-old lumpectomy scar.

Lumpectomy scar before and after the treatment period

A client came to HLP Therapy to see whether anything could be done about their lumpectomy scar.

The client had a 27-year-old breast scar from two lumpectomies performed through the same scar. The main issues were pinching, tightness, restricted movement, pain and being unable to wear a bra properly.

The client attended four 45-minute treatment sessions at HLP Therapy. Therapy included LymphaTouch treatment, scar therapy and changes to exercise, diet and hydration. LymphaTouch was the main component of the treatment.

LymphaTouch treatment was given at 350 mmHg using the small 10 mm treatment head, in two 15-minute periods directly on the scar and on the tight area of thickened tissue.

Results

  • After the first session, the client felt a 60% reduction in pain.
  • After the second session, the client was able to wear a bra comfortably for the first time in 27 years.
  • After the third session, the breast was fuller and tightness had reduced by 80%.
  • After the fourth and final session, the scar was softer and less tethered, the breast was fuller, there was no pain and tightness had reduced by 85%. The client was extremely happy with the results.

This case was shared by Hannah Poulton, Women's Health Physiotherapist and Scar Specialist, owner of HLP Therapy Limited.
